The story of a winemaking passion
If, one fine day in 1899, Jean-Baptiste Marius Rigot had not left the family village of Violès to come and settle a short way away, in the stony plain of the Hauts Débats district in Jonquières, the characteristic “Treasure of the Garrigues” that has forged the reputation of the Domaine Rigot may have never been known.
Because for generations, the Rigot “dynasty” has been based in Violès, where once there were no less than 18 families with this name.
It is also still remembered that from 1920 to 1925, a certain Fortuné Rigot presided over the fortunes of the village as its mayor. And everyone passing through Violès has been through Cours Rigot, the village’s main street.
But although Violès is the fiefdom of a great family, one should also bear in mind Rigot de Jonquières, where the estate has existed for five generations, and since 2002 has been run by Nathalie and Laurent Rigot, who have fully forgiven this little excursion towards the west.
