The Pêche d’Antan

Some background
The Pêche d’Antan was started on 23 July 1977, and aims to continue the fishing tradition on L’Isle sur la Sorgue so that this knowledge is not lost.

It is organised by the confrérie des “Pescaire Lilen”. This society was created in 1593 under the name of the “Confrérie des pêcheurs de Notre-Dame de Sorguette” with a religious, social and mutual aid between L’Isle sur la Sorgue fishermen.

After the French Revolution, and following the destruction of its chapel, the confrérie gradually lost its stature until it ceased being in 1870. It was Jean-Louis Borel, when he was President of the Fishing Association, who resuscitated the confrérie in 1977, renaming it for the occasion “Pescaïre Lilen” and organising that same year the “Pêche d’Antan” for the first time.
