Event in Avignon :

A divided world. The masculine and the feminine. Life and death. The countryside and the city. In *Le Villi*, everything stems from a rift.

The village’s original purity is countered by the temptation of the city, a place of oblivion and perdition. Roberto leaves; Anna stays. From betrayal springs death, and with it, the Villi. Nature itself is turned upside down: welcoming at first, it becomes a haunted forest, a nocturnal realm where the spirits’ justice is carried out.
The Villi, multiple female figures, are both nymphs and avengers, akin to the ancient Erinyes: forces of persecution as much as powers of appeasement. Within this dense and archaic Central European imagination, Puccini unfolds a crystalline musical language, infused with the ardor of youth.

Stefano Poda places these tensions at the heart of his staging. His set design creates a dialogue between man and woman, nature and technology, the Apollonian and the Dionysian. Moreover, dance becomes the dramatic driving force: it carries the bodies to a final vertigo, suspended between damnation and possible redemption. More than a fantastical tale, *Le Villi* becomes a journey through the feminine, from innocence to metamorphosis. A tragedy of betrayed love in which dance, inexorable, seals the characters’ fate.
