Madeleine Lemaire (1845-1928) was a French painter, pastellist, engraver and illustrator who made her debut at the 1864 Salon. Her works, including portraits and floral compositions, are notably part of the Musée d'Orsay collections.

During the Belle Époque, the artist ran a musical and literary salon where writers, musicians, actors and actresses gathered. Among them were Robert de Montesquiou and Marcel Proust.
Madeleine Lemaire illustrated Marcel Proust's book Les Plaisirs et les Jours, published in 1896 by Calmann-Lévy, with her floral watercolors.
