# THE EXHIBITION
At the heart of listening and its many dimensions
Starting from the experience of this extraordinary genius, who was both deaf and socially isolated yet also the composer of the 'Ode to Joy', which became the European Union anthem, the exhibition LUDWIG VAN – Listening in order to hear each other' (Ecouter pour s’entendre) explores the many facets of listening. Listening, whether physiological, mental, social or political, is omnipresent in each and every one of us. Do we know how to listen? Do we need to listen to ourselves to better hear others? Maybe we're actuallly deaf and don't know it? This exhibition takes the visitor to the very heart of listening and its many dimensions, while questioning our own perception of sounds and of others.

THREE STAGES TO THE JOURNEY THROUGH THE EXHIBITION
BEETHOVEN, DEAF ARTIST # What does listening mean?
Installations featuring listening through bone conduction, hearing from deaf musicians, display of old listening horns, looking at sound illusions, immersive and documentary installation Auris Incognita…

BEETHOVEN, ISOLATED MAN # From perception of self to listening to others
Perceive the world that is in us, and the world around us, through video and literary scenes from the webseries 'Chef futur moi' to Peer Gynt and excerpts from films.

BEETHOVEN AND EUROPE # Moving towards collective understanding
