Event in Avignon :
Considered one of the greatest painters of his time, Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) was also, through his brushwork and political commitment, one of the great figures of the French Revolution.
Lulled by the philosophy of the Enlightenment, he believed in the power of art to disseminate ideas to the heart of society.
His painting served to express the political ideas of a revolutionary government, of which he was a fervent defender.
La Mort de Bara, a work conserved at the Musée Calvet and created in 1794 to create new symbols, is a prime example.
Free admission.
