Explore the hamlet’s old village, the oldest section, by venturing into the alleys and cobblestone streets. They will lead you to the keep, then the Saint-Roch chapel, right near the Porte d’Autan.
Follow the ramparts surrounding the village.
You will come to Cairanne’s three towers. These are remnants of the Templar headquarters, as well as the parish church of St. Andrew, in both Romanesque and Gothic styles. The charming chapels of Notre-Dame des Excès (Our Lady of Surplus) and Saint-Geniès also deserve a visit.
At the foot of the Belvedere, in the chapel of Notre-Damede-la-Vigne-et-du-Rosaire (Our Lady of the Vine and the Rosary) there are some remarkable stained glass windows.
Marked by its history and its renowned wine, Cairanne is a picture postcard village.
Follow one of the many walking and hiking trails, which criss-crossing the town, such as the GR4 circuit. These trails will let you discover the panoramas of the vineyards and the Dentelles de Montmirail.

In the Middle Ages, the little fortified village of Cairanne belonged first to the Counts of Toulouse, then the Hospitallers, and finally to the Popes. The pope reserved the annual tithe for himself, amounting at the time to twelve barrels of Cairanne !
