The village, situated at the entrance to the Nesque gorges, was once surrounded by ramparts, which explains the circular shape of its old centre. The walls, built of Saracen stone, bear witness to this medieval past. Once the main gateway to Villes sur Auzon, the Great Gateway (18th century) conceals the access to the old prison under its arch. The Mascaron fountain is contemporary to it, and was put in water in 1783.
The unusual district of "Li Pous de Foro" is the district of the villagers' plots, who protected their gardens behind low stone walls.
Another unusual detail is that the neo-Romanesque church of Saint André was given a republican motto by a municipal decree in 1891.
The village has been designated the regional capital of biodiversity in 2019. The landscape is dominated by the cultivation of Muscat du Ventoux table grapes, vineyards for the AOC Ventoux wine, and cherry trees protected by the IGP Coteaux du Ventoux, which have taken the place of wheat and madder crops. You can find producers at the Wednesday market.
Culture is not left out, each year a renowned jazz festival takes place in the middle of the summer. René Seyssaud, a painter and precursor of the Fauvist movement, was a native of Villes sur Auzon.
