Li Bergie" living crib

At the edge of the superb Dentelles de Montmirail massif, a small village clinging to the hillside overlooking the vineyard, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France and nicknamed the Bethlehem of Provence, Séguret showcases Provençal traditions each winter.

> In the afternoon, the “cacho-fio” ceremony – a traditional half-religious, half-magic rite – gathers the whole family together around the hearth so that the oldest member, helped by the youngest person in the household, blesses the log from a fruit tree in the fireplace.

> At 10 p.m., Saint-Denis church comes to life with the performance of the “Li Bergie de Séguret” Mystery, a touching ceremony passed down orally from generation to generation, performed in French and Provençal by the village's inhabitants. The mystery unfolds over almost two hours and comprises five scenes beginning with a prophetic song announcing the coming of the Messiah and finishing with the Adoration.
