André Estienne was born in Cadenet on 13 October 1777. During the wars of Italy, he was on the banks of the Alpone River in Arcole with General Bonaparte. On the 16th of November 1796 the French troupes were blockaded in front of the Arcole Bridge. With a small group of officers and soldiers, he closed the river, avoided the Austrian lines, and beat his drum for the charge which contributed to Napoleon?s victory. Napoleon awarded his silver ?Drumsticks of Honor? in 1801. In 1804, he was decorated with the Legion of Honor. His effigy is carved into the Arch of Triumph and on the Panthéon. Free of charge
