The Château was built in the 11th Century, and belonged to the Simiane family until the 16th Century, when it became the property of the Marquis de Sade. In the words of the Marquis de Sade "an extraordinary attachment" bound him to this fortress, where he stayed several times.

Internationally famous couturier and businessman Pierre Cardin purchased the château in 2001, in a state of ruin, and began to renovate a part of the castle.

Be sure to see: the private apartments of the Marquis de Sade. See: furnishings from the private collection of Pierre Cardin, collected over many years and many journeys to India, China, Italy... Contemporary works of art selected by Mr. Cardin.
There are magnificent views from the terraces of the Château. Look out over the Calavon valley, the Monts de Vaucluse, with Mont Ventoux and the Alps providing a stunning backdrop, as well as views of the village of Bonnieux on a nearby hill.

Visits can be arranged all year round for groups of 10 or more, by appointment only.
