The Oratorians settled in Avignon in 1646. They were authorized to settle in 1648. They acquired a house in the parish of Saint-Agricol. They were bequeathed another house in 1666. They then opened a main seminary under the title of Saint Gregory the Great in 1669 with the support of the Archbishop of Avignon, Domenico de' Marini, which operated until 1702 after the opening of the Collège Saint-Charles-de-la-Croix. The first church was consecrated on February 25, 1667. The church remained in existence until 1753.

The community was suppressed during the French Revolution.

The chapel is only open for special events: concerts, Heritage Days... Further information: intramurosavignon@diocese-avignon.fr
