Practical Info

The ancient sites are open every day between June and September from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, and in October from 10 am to 12.30 pm and 2 pm to 5.30 pm.

Vaucluse is known for its wealth of Gallo-Roman sites.
To begin with, Puymin and Villasse: located next to each other in Vaison-la-Romaine.

These ancient sites are now only home to a few treasured remains out in the open air – timeless despite all the time that’s passed.
These Roman ruins serve as a reminder of an incredible history. Each time we visit, the site works its magic and we imagine what it would’ve been like in a bygone era, surrounded by plant varieties and stone walls.

The Roman Theatre

Adjoining these two timeless sites sits the Roman Theatre – every summer it comes to life with activities and night-time performances.

Although its wall has fallen, it has lost nothing of its splendour, and the anticipation builds as you take your seat ready to witness one of the events regularly held at the theatre.
This theatre with its 5,000 seats is undoubtedly a magnificent open-air stage, perfect for summer shows.

Follow in the footsteps of the Romans

Roman roads, traces of former villas, bungalows, and spaces inhabited by the Romans are visible among the ruins of the Roman city in Vaison-la-Romaine.

On the antique site of Villasse, for example, you can find ‘La Maison du Buste en Argent’. With a surface area of 5,000 square metres, this house contained many gardens and connecting passageways.

Fun fact

As of today, only 15 hectares are seen of the 75 estimated hectares.
