Sunday, 4 August 2019, the boats are decorated with flowers and filled with local products from Provence, such as wine, olives, fruits and vegetables. They float down the river and come dock along the banks of Isle sur la Sorgue, with the fishermen's family, in local costume, on board.
A floating market on the emerald-green waters of the river flowing through Isle sur la Sorgue! Isle sur la Sorgue - a small town in Vaucluse also known as the Venice of Provence, for many streams flow through the town, and many little bridges criss-cross these canals. Old water wheels evoke the past history of Isle sur la Sorgue. Here too are flat little boats traditionally used to fish, now used to hold the floating market once a year. These flat-bottomed boats are known as "Nego-Chin".
