A wonderfully colourful event, where gardening enthusiasts come together every year. The village is arrayed in its most gorgeous colours for the occasion.
For over 20 years, the first Sunday in May has drawn thousands of people to the Flower Festival, not only to buy flowers (bouquets, seedlings, dried flowers, cacti, exotic plants, wooden flowers, and more), but also to marvel at the stunning ‘marriage’ of the ancient stones with this multitude of colours. Colours and scents swirl around the ancient stones of this Templar city, making this day a harmonious highlight of the year. Local people give free rein to their creativity, enthusiastically decorating their village on a different theme each year – butterflies, flags, the colours of the rainbow – just beautiful. Admission to the festival is free. There is ample free parking, and prepared lunches are available. The children dress up to match the theme and put on a parade, accompanied by the strains of a band of musicians enlivening the village streets. There are surprise draws, with lots of floral prizes donated by exhibitors, while the village’s community halls play host to flower-themed exhibitions. Children are catered for at the Festival with carousels and games.
