The Palace of the Popes stands as the symbol of the importance of the Church in the Christian Western world, in the 14th century. Building of the palace started in 1335 and in less than twenty years, it became the biggest Gothic palace in the western world. Today visitors can tour over twenty rooms in the palace, all places where important events took place. See the private apartments of the pope and their stunning decors of frescoes painted by the Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti.
