The different angles of the sculpture show the different facettes of the personality of this "silverback" gorilla, which is powerful, intimidating, ready to leap, and also reassuring, calm and sensual.
The great primates have been a recurrent theme for many years now in the sculpture and drawings done by the artist Mattieu Faury. Their morphology, their behaviour, their humanity, fascinate the artist. The great primates truly question our own identity, which contains both our asserted humanity, and our suppressed animal nature. And our collective responsibility in the countless violations we inflict on biodiversity.
The title "Heart of primate" evokes what brings us together - we humans and they, the great apes. We have the same pulsations, the same sensations, the same emotions, the same needs. And this comparison could continue, with degrees of difference, to the entire realm of living beings.
