This exhibition invites visitors to come discover another facet of the Italian paintings painted between the 1200s and the early 1500s, traditionally displayed based on chronology and regional schools of painting. In this exhibition, focus is on the premises where the paintings were produced, that is, the workshop. This display of the materials and tools used by Italian painters for over three centuries gives a totally new look at these paintings, both as words of art and also as merchandise which was bought and sold and which revealed the knowledge and savoir-faire. Copies of the painter's instruments and materials were specially created by the specialist, Patrick Varrot, based on treatises on ancient techniques

This exhibition also proposes a totally new experience. A painting from the museum, "La Manne du tombeau de saint André" by Carlo Braccesco (known in Liguria between 1478 and 1501), has been rebuilt on a full-size human scale to enable visitors to "enter" the painting, which depicts the choir and a church - where the visitor can mingle with the painted characters. Reconstruction prepared by the Ecole d’Avignon.
