Tourist service in Lauris :

The only one of its kind in Europe, this conservatory garden is dedicated to plants whose pigments are extracted for dyeing, cosmetics and food purposes. Picturesque learning trail through which you can explore the tinctorial plants. The Tinctorial Plants Conservatory Garden in Lauris is a botanical garden that is unique in Europe as it is entirely dedicated to tinctorial (or dyeing) plants. Along this landscaped trail, which features 50 themed squares, you can discover over 300 varieties of plants with dyeing properties, which are traditionally grown in Europe and on every continent. The gardener-botanist, who is responsible for maintaining the garden, is an expert in the field, with first-rate knowledge of his subject. Perched on the terraces of the Château de Lauris (which dates from the 18th century and is listed as a Historic Monument) and overlooking the Durance Valley, these terraced gardens have obtained the “Remarkable Garden” label. A group of passionate volunteers organises guided tours lasting approximately one hour. The garden regularly hosts concerts and entertainment, as well as offering introductory workshops and (professional) training courses in Couleur Garance SCOP vegetal dyes.
