Mont Ventoux Area

Mont Ventoux peaks at 1912 metres and is known as the Giant of Provence. Its majestic silhouette dominates the landscape and is classified as a unesco biosphere reserve. Mont Ventoux can be seen from just about everywhere in Vaucluse, ever present, ever fascinating. It's a landmark, a point of reference. Snow often blankets the top in winter. The rocky bare summit glistens in the summer.

Mont Ventoux, one of the legendary summits of the Tour de France, is a challenge to cyclists from the world over. Biking, hiking, and horseback riding are all good ways to explore Mont Ventoux. A beautiful automobile itinerary is also a pleasure, there are many ways to discover this magnificent natural setting.

 

The plains of the Comtat Venaissin stretch at the base of the southern side of Mont Ventoux.  The Comtat plain is lush with vineyards producing the Côtes du Ventoux wines, cherry orchards, truffle oak, and Carpentras strawberries. On the north side of Mont Ventoux lies the Sault valley, with vast fields of lavender, the Toulourenc river and the perched village of Brantes and other hilltop villages...

 

 

The Mont Ventoux Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO has recognised the specificity and the natural diversity of the life forms here and have ranked Mont Ventoux as a Biosphere Reserve.

 

Cycling the legendary Mont Ventoux

As you leave Bedoin or Malaucène and start up the winding roads which weave amidst the forests of fir and pine to the top of Mont Ventoux, thoughts of the Tour de France teams come to mind. Many cyclists take on Mont Ventoux, and the effort is worth it ! Mont Ventoux, one of the mythical stages on the Tour de France itineraries is worth a try !

The Mont Serein resort

The forests on Mont Ventoux are sites of many different activities. Mountain bikers, shepherds, hunters, athletes, scientists and mushroom lovers are all at home at Mont Serein.
The Mont Serein area lies at 1350 meters altitude. In winter, there is skiing, snowboarding and snow-shoeoing. In the summer, many activities for all ages, with hill karting, grass scooters, discovery trails, flora and fauna outings.
