Wine and gastronomy
The Garden of Eden in Provence

Vaucluse is a garden, where everything grows, profusely and in great variety, for here Provence is at its fertile best ...

Vaucluse is a vineyard, with sun-kissed grapes ripened to perfection ...
Vaucluse is an orchard, an herb garden, an olive grove ... home to many different appellations.

Strawberries from Carpentras and cherries from the Monts de Vaucluse reach the markets in the springtime, along with the asparagus. The melons from Cavaillon, the peaches and the apricots, and of course the tomatoes, are the bounty of the summertime. In the fall comes the gorgeous sweet Muscat du Ventoux grapes. Winter means the olive harvest, and of course the famous black truffles – 80% of the truffle production in France comes from Vaucluse.

So ... it comes as no surprise that Vaucluse is one of the French départements with the greatest number of starred chefs in the Michelin Guide ! Vaulcuse represent a large part of France gastronomy.

For the cuisine here is above all creative, and the chefs are genuine, genial inventors !

Not to mention the markets, both traditional and innovative – theme markets and varied markets, always warm, colourful and fragrant, true tributes to the glory of the terroir. A fun and friendly way to get a feeling for each village !

Vineyards and vintages

The famous vintages from Vaucluse - Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise are known the world over. More than half the villages in Vaucluse are wine-producing villages.

The history of wine-making and the history of Vaucluse have been closely intertwined since time immemorial. Many different influences have contributed to the complexity - the Greeks, the Romans, the Popes, the Jewish community...
Vaucluse produces three different wine appellations: Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Ventoux and Côtes du Luberon. Visitors can get to know the vineyards on foot, on bicycles, even in horse-drawn wagons !
Many cellars are open to the public for wine-tastings. Vineyard and wine festivities take place throughout the entire year. Vaucluse has 5 museums on the theme of wine, such as the Sensorial Trail in Cairanne which proposes an initiation for all five senses.
