Hike - The Cedar Forest

1 1/2 hour hike– Distance: 3km – Easy - Altitude change: 100m – Marked: yellow + explanatory signs - Leave/park: parking area at the Cedar Forest. Excellent family walk, perfect for discovering the Petit Luberon, the original cedar forest. Cool and shady in the summer, this path is idea for discovering the work done by the foresters, for picnicking, and for walking amidst majestic Atlas cedars, with stunning views over the Luberon, Mont Ventoux and in the distance, the étang de Berre and the foothills of Marseille.

Total change of scenery here at the Cedar forest, planted in 1860 by a forester who planted cedar trees for lumber. The forest has since become mature and spread. The undergrowth provides ideal conditions for fauna, flora and visitors. The blackbird is at home here, as is the chickadee, squirrels and wild boar. There are over 350 species of mushroom. Explanatory signs describe the ecosystem all along the botanical trail, very easy for families. A picnic in the shade of the cedar trees, with views over the Provençal village of Bonnieux, the Monts de Vaucluse and Mont Ventoux is one of the rewards of this beautiful walk.
