In the village of Le Thor, a few kilometers from Isle sur la Sorgue, the Thouzon Caves were discovered in 1902. The Thouzon Caves are known as the "Fairy Caves" with their amazing concretions and nudules - stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, basins, cave pearls ... Balanced fairy pillars, fan-talus, joints, wells, meanders, flint nodules and many other geological phenomena - a visit which lasts 45 minutes.
From there, go on to Fontaine de Vaucluse and visit the "Norbert Casteret" Ecomuseum which tells the story of the swallow-hole, and pays tribute to Norbert Casteret, the famous spelunker. Learn about the remarkable resurgence, admire the collection of mineral cristallisations, see frescoes and traces of prehistoric activity in this life-size setting.
In the spring, the resurgence is at its peak and gushes into the waters of the Sorgue river. In summer, the waters are quieter and you can walk to the end and admire the peaceful pool.
Enjoy picnicking along the banks of the river, shady and cool; There are also canoe outings down the Sorgue river - a peaceful and lovely to further explore the Sorgue.
