8 May, the strawberry fills the area with its frangrance.
Ciflorette, Gariguette, Pajaro or Mara des bois… delicately placed in punnets or baskets, every 8 May the strawberry is the queen of the village of Velleron.
Ready to be popped in the mouth, the berries are displayed on stands alongside simple or mixed jams, strawberry macaroons or other cardinal-bright tarts. The Confrérie de la fraise Carpentras-Comtat Venaissin, wearing ceremonial dress, holds its meetings, while the Fraisier group enlivens the streets with its music. And there are several tons of this little plump red jewel that Vaucluse berry-growers have on hand for gourmets. Meanwhile an outdoor antiques fair spreads its handsome wares through the squares and narrow streets of the old village. Access to the festival and all of the events is free of charge.
